Earned his spot on the Golden Knights after losing his leg in Vietnam in 1966.

Military Awards/Recognition [on & off of the Team] 3 Purple Hearts, 3 Bronze Stars with "V", the Silver Star, Army Commendation Medal with "V", Vietnamese Silver Star, 2 Vietnamese Crosses of Gallantry with Palm and the Military Merit Medal. Military Jobs/Service While Not on the Team Lost a leg in VN, and was the first paraplegic ever assigned to the Team. He jumped some demonstrations. He went back to 'Nam, but the climate kept destroying his wooden leg, so he was returned to the states. He was an Airborne advisor to the Vietnamese Highlights of My Military Career First military man to return to jump status after such a disabling injury. After losing his leg, he fought to stay in the Army, fought to regain his airborne status. He made over 200 jumps with a prosthesis.
